This is unfortunate, because despite the highly successful sales and marketing strategies of this monolithic corporate giant, their products have set a new precedence in the areas of inferiority, poor quality, and appalling security.

My most enjoyable engineering work has been with Linux and OpenBSD. Solaris now has potential to be great with their new embracement of Open-Source technology and the Java Desktop. If your business is built on a *nix platform for the backend server and networking side, then you are on the right track. What you use for a desktop workstation operating system is less critical.
